B.S.Nagesh

Customer Care Associate & Vice Chairman – Shoppers Stop Limited

Mr. B. S. Nagesh has been with Shoppers Stop Ltd since its inception in1991. As Vice Chairman of Shoppers Stop Ltd, Mr. B.S. Nagesh continues to play the role of strategic advisor to the management of Shoppers Stop Ltd. Recognised as the pioneer of the retail boom in India, Mr. Nagesh was voted by Business India as one of the top 50 managers in India who will influence the Indian business scenario in the 21st century.

In the last 19 years Mr. Nagesh has taken the business of retailing to new heights. From a one-store set-up in Mumbai, Shoppers Stop today is the largest chain of large format department stores with a national presence with 28 stores in 12 cities.

Mr. B.S. Nagesh has contributed significantly in ushering international brands and modern retailing in the country. He is involved in setting up and operations of the country’s largest hypermarket HyperCity, which was launched in May 2006. HyperCity has been declared as one of the top 100 retail destinations in the world by Retail Week, UK and the best hypermarket at the United States International Design Awards in New York.

His leadership and vision for the company has enabled franchise of various international brands like M.A.C & Mothercare and setting up of JVs with Nuance of Switzerland for airport retailing and with LAI of Australia for Timezone entertainment centers. Mr. Nagesh was also instrumental in Shoppers Stop Limited acquiring the 100 per cent stake of the Crossword chain of bookstores in the year 2005.

Mr. Nagesh has been recognised as ‘The Retail Professional of The Year’ by CMAI for the years 2001, 2003, 2005 & 2006 and at the India Retail Summit in November 2005. He was also felicitated with ‘The Best Professional of the Year’ award at the ICICI Bank, Retail Awards in 2005.

In November 2006, Mr. Nagesh was awarded the ‘Entrepreneurship Award’ in the Enterprise Scions Awards instituted by DNA Money and the ‘Visionary Award’ by ICFAI.

Ernst & Young nominated him for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2005 as one of the top 30 finalists. He also received the 'Top CEO Award 2001' instituted by Institute of Marketing Management. Mr. Nagesh has been recognised as an iconic retailer and was inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame 2008 along with Mr. Millard Drexler of J Crew, Sir Philip Green of BHS and Arcadia and Mr. Amancio Ortega of Inditex at the World Retail Congress 2008 conducted in Barcelona. The four iconic retailers have been selected by retail industry leaders and experts from across the Globe in recognition of their supreme industry achievements. With his induction in the World Retail Hall of Fame 2008, Mr. Nagesh is the only Indian retailer to take a significant place alongside more than 100 stalwarts of the global retail industry, which include veterans like Sam Walton of Wal-Mart, Giorgio Armani, Jack Cohen of Tesco, Simon Marks and Israel Sieff of Marks & Spencer, Ingvar Kamprad of Ikea, amongst others.

CMAI Apex Awards in July 2008 Felicitated Mr. Nagesh for being the First Indian Retailer to be inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame. In his prior role as the Managing Director of Shoppers Stop, Mr. B. S. Nagesh infused the latest retail techniques into the business, blending the best of national and international talent within the company. NASSCOM in association with Economic Times awarded Shoppers Stop the “Best IT User” in the retail vertical.

Mr.Govind Shrikhande

Customer Care Associate & Managing Director – Shoppers Stop Limited

Mr. Govind Shrikhande has been with Shoppers Stop Ltd since April 2001. Mr. Shrikhande has now taken over the responsibility as The Managing Director of Shoppers Stop Ltd.

He started his association with the company as the Vice President of Buying & Merchandising function and has since grown within the company managing roles of the Chief Operating Officer before taking over charge as the CEO of the company 3 years back. Mr. Shrikhande has a rich experience of the Textiles, Apparel and Retail industry. Before joining Shoppers Stop Ltd, Govind has been associated with Mafatlal and Johnson & Johnson in the past. He was part of the team that launched Arvind Denim & Arrow. Govind has also worked with Bombay Dyeing.

Mr. Salil Nair

Customer Care Associate & Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Salil Nair had joined Shoppers Stop Ltd in 1994 in Retail Operations. Prior to that he had experience with Companies like Glaxo India Ltd and Carona Ltd in South India before moving to Mumbai.

On the Academic front Mr. Salil Nair completed his post graduation in Physics from Meerut University.

During the last 17 years of his tenure with Shoppers stop he made significant contributions in the fields of Retail Operations, Buying and Merchandising and Store Design before being elevated to the position of Chief operating Officer.

He is responsible for transforming the Buying & Merchandising department into a Strategic one which has helped the organization considerable growth.

He has also been instrumental in creating a foundation of a Strong Value System within the organization. It is under his leadership that his team has gone beyond all imaginable levels of service creating moments of magic for customers. It is his constant Endeavour to be “Nothing But the Best”. He is also very actively involved in the “Think Green” campaign adopted by Shoppers Stop as a Corporate Social initiative.

Mr. Chandrashekhar Navalkar

Customer Care Associate & Group Chief Financial Officer Shoppers Stop Ltd. & CEO Crossword Bookstores Limited

Mr C. B. NAVALKAR, Customer Care Associate & Group Chief Financial Officer working with Shoppers Stop Ltd. since November 2001. His educational qualification is B.Com, ACA. Before joining Shoppers Stop, he worked with companies like Blue Dart Express Ltd. and Morarjee Gokuldas Spinning and Wvg Mills Ltd.

Mr C. B. NAVALKAR, Customer Care Associate & Group Chief Financial Officer working with Shoppers Stop Ltd. since November 2001. His educational qualification is B.Com, ACA. Before joining Shoppers Stop, he worked with companies like Blue Dart Express Ltd. and Morarjee Gokuldas Spinning and Wvg Mills Ltd. His major role is maintaining control over the moneys invested in the Group’s retail initiatives, arranging funds for expansion and monitoring the Corporate Governance Compliances within the group. During his tenure the Company bagged the Gold Shield for the “Excellence in Financial Reporting of the year 2005-2006” under Manufacturing and Training category from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Mr. Navalkar is also a CEO of Crossword Bookstores Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Shoppers Stop Ltd, since June 2007. During his tenure Crossword has turned around to make its operation profitable.

Mr. Arun Gupta

Customer Care Associate & Group Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Arun Gupta is Customer Care Associate & Group Chief Technology Officer for Shoppers Stop Department Stores, HyperCITY hypermarkets, & Crossword bookstores. He also holds additional responsibility as Group CIO for K Raheja Corp spanning Construction, Hospitality, and other business units. He has held additional responsibility as Business Head – F&B from November 2008 until June 2009.

Mr. Arun Gupta is Customer Care Associate & Group Chief Technology Officer for Shoppers Stop Department Stores, HyperCITY hypermarkets, & Crossword bookstores. He also holds additional responsibility as Group CIO for K Raheja Corp spanning Construction, Hospitality, and other business units. He has held additional responsibility as Business Head – F&B from November 2008 until June 2009. Arun is on The Global CIO 50: IT Leaders Changing the Business World, published by Informationweek in June 2009. He is winner of CIO Ingenious 100 award in 2009, CIO Bold 100 award in 2008 and CIO Giant 100 award in 2006 organized by CIO Magazine, an IDG publication. Under his leadership, Shoppers Stop has won the CIO Innovation Award 2009, Storage Award 2008, India Retail Forum 2007 award for “Best Technology Usage”; HyperCity has won the Real Results Award – Emerging Markets in April 2008 at JDA FOCUS at USA. The group has also won 3 PC Quest Enterprise Awards and 2 Network Computing EDGE awards in 2009.

He is recognized as a “Business friendly” CIO and a leader in aligning IT and business and was featured by Economic Times as “The CIO who never spoke Technology”. He specializes in “IT-Business alignment” and turning around IT functions from pure operations to forging strategic business relationships, which he has successfully executed in most of his roles.

Prior to Shoppers Stop Ltd, he was with Philips Electronics India Limited as Director – IT and Business Relationship Manager. Arun’s role included responsibility for IT initiatives across Consumer Electronics, Lighting, Domestic Appliances, Medical Systems & Philips Innovation Center. Arun was also Senior Director – Business Technology at Pfizer India where he was a part of the India leadership team and Asia IT Strategy Team. He has been providing IT leadership since 1994 to Companies spread across diversified sectors including Pharmaceuticals, Telecom, Logistics, Merchant Banking & Asset Management, and Shipping.

His career spanning over 25 years includes positions such as Vice President – IT & ISP, Hughes Telecom (now Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited), National IT Manager, DHL Worldwide Express, India, Vice President – Technology at DSP Merrill Lynch and Head IT, Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited. Arun is an invited speaker globally and has presented on varied subjects on technology and business internationally. He is the Chairman of the Technology Committee of Retailers Association of India (RAI). He is also the elected President of TDWI (The Data Warehouse Institute), India and the Panel of Experts for Tech Target India. Earlier he was on the Advisory Board of CIO Magazine from 2005-2009.

Arun holds a Bachelor of Science from Mumbai University & Post Graduate in Software Technology from NCST. His personal interests include blogging, photography, music and reading.

Mr. Vivek Mathur

Customer Care Associate & Vice President Corporate Planning

Vivek Mathur, 40, is the Customer Care Associate & Vice-President - Corporate Planning of our Company, and has a Bachelors degree in Technology (Electronics) from IT-BHU, Varanasi, and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University and has experience of over 15 years.

Vivek Mathur, 40, is the Customer Care Associate & Vice-President - Corporate Planning of our Company, and has a Bachelors degree in Technology (Electronics) from IT-BHU, Varanasi, and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University and has experience of over 15 years.

Mr. Mathur is responsible for supporting the group's strategy development, and new business development through partnerships with international retailers and brands. He is also driving the group's entry into online retailing.

He has worked with several major retail clients in India, South East Asia and the United Kingdoms, on various strategy and performance improvement assignments, in his earlier consulting roles. During his seven year stint with KSA-Technopak, he contributed significantly to the establishment of KSA-Technopak's retail practice, and was the Associate Director leading the retail practice till 2002. He was then a Director with Integrated Retail Management Consulting (IRMC) for two years. Prior to joining our Company, he has also worked with Pantaloon Retail India Limited, and has also previously worked for the Arvind Mills Limited and HCL Limited.
